From 2017, after Lisa demanded payment in writing, companies of the Avícola Villalobos Group filed dozens of suits asking the courts to declare Lisa's dividends extinguished under the Civil Code's five-year prescription, identifying the dividends with their own accountants' certificates recording them as payable to Lisa. Lisa's answer is that no company ever fixed a date or place of payment, so no term could run, and that the embargoes the companies and their shareholders obtained over the dividends are what prevented their collection. So far the courts have mostly agreed with Lisa or turned the suits away: the lead case was dismissed because no payment date was shown, which the Supreme Court confirmed in October 2025; one court of appeals has held that a shareholder's dividends do not prescribe at all, a ruling now in cassation; and many suits were rejected for taking the wrong procedure. One appeals ruling has declared a 2012 dividend prescribed, and Lisa has taken it to cassation.
